Mr. Iakovos Petmezakis was born in Karlovasi, Samos. In 1960 he began his studies at the Medical School of the FU of the Free University (Freie Universität) in what was then West Berlin as a scholar of the FRIEDRICH EBERT Foundation, which was completed in 1966.

  • In 1971 he received the specialty of Otolaryngology after training at the University Clinic of Bonn, West Germany, and Graz in Austria.
  • Since 1973 he has been a curator at the Otolaryngology Clinic of the "Evangelismos" Hospital.
  • From 1973 to 1981 he was a research associate of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
  • In 1976 he created the first pediatric oncology department at the "Agia Sofia" hospital, where he remained as director until 1986.
  • In 1981 he was appointed Associate Professor of the Otolaryngoligic University Clinic of AHEPA after many years of experimental work on the middle ear of rabbits.

Former Coordinator - Director of the Otolaryngology Clinic of MTERRA Hospital and member of its Scientific Council, Scientific Partner of YGEIA Hospital, Scientific Director of Medical Credit & Scientific Head of the Otolaryngology Department of Medical Credit, which covers the whole range of diseases of the ENT area for children and adults.

At the same time, he is a member of the Panhellenic Society of Head and Neck Surgery of which he served as President, the ENT Society of Northern Greece, the Pangerman ENT Society, the Austrian ENT Society, the German Neurotological Society and the American Medical Society of Vienna.

For his many years of scientific and social contribution he has been honored with the following distinctions:

• In 1966 an honorary plaque was placed in Berlin as part of the celebration for the 75 years of the ROBERT KOCH INSTITUT.

• In 1999 in AACHEN, Germany he was declared a corresponding member of the Pan-German ENT company.

• In 1981, with Choremeio, he was awarded a prize for his research work at the "Agia Sophia" hospital.

• For his social contribution and medical care to patients he received in 2008 with the gold cross of the Ionian Hearth and a commendation and medal from the Holy Metropolis of Samos and Ikaria.

- In 2016, as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Free University of West Berlin, he was awarded for the second time for his dissertation by the ROBERT KOCH INSTITUT.
